Entry Requirements for Foreign Visitors
Foreign visitors must be in possession of a valid passport. Entry Visa requirements vary. Check with your Embassy prior to departure.

Tourist Safety
Although Mossel Bay has a relatively low crime rate, crime is still a global problem. Take the same precautions you would when visiting any other international destination. Do not display valuables and avoid walking alone in deserted areas.

Banking & Currency
Banking weekdays from 08h30 and 16h00. Saturdays 08h30 - 11h00. ATM facilities are available in most shopping malls / centers. South African currency are identified as ZAR (South African Rand). Currency Converter.

Language
11 official languages with English being the most common language spoken in South Africa. Mossel Bay is mainly Afrikaans, English and Xhosa.

Climate
Mossel Bay has the most temperate climate year-round. Summer peaking at 33 degrees & winter 14 degrees Celsius. Weather is always changing, so pack one or two warm pieces even in Summer.

Clothing
Cotton and linen recommended. Windbreaker for cooler days. Comfortable walking shoes, hat and sunblock are essential items. Unlike in the larger cities, Mossel Bay dresses fairly casual, unless a venue requires business or formal wear.

Medical Facilities
Mossel Bay has a provincial hospital, as well as a private hospital. There are 2 Medicross Clinics and various private GP practices. Currently a GP visit ranges from R150 to R250.00* with medication not included. South Africa does not have National Health Insurance. Make provision for possible medical expenses.

Food & Beverage
Mossel Bay has various popular restaurants which offers excellent cuisine and world-class wine. International brands of beer and soft drinks available. Tap water is safe to drink, although most tourists not used to the water prefer bottled spring water.

Petrol or Gas
Available 24 hours a day. 95 (unleaded) or 95 (lead replacement petrol / LRP). Petrol cannot be paid for with an international company card. Cash payment is recommended.

Telecommunications
All South African numbers require the area code to be dialed - even locally. Mossel Bay is ADSL enabled, as well as 3G. Some hotels, restaurants and gas stations has wi-fi hotspots.

Tipping
Tipping is voluntary - Yet most employees are paid a basic minimum wage and supplement income via tipping. At some restaurants a service fee of 10% is added. The quality of the service defines the size of the tip but is usually 10% of the bill.

Transport
Driving on left-hand side of the road. A valid Driver’s Licence is required. Private taxi's are available. Shuttle services available in selected areas. Major airports are located at Cape Town, Johannesburg, George, Port Elizabeth and Durban with affordable air travel fares. Luxury coaches also service all major routes.
